GRAMMY Awards 2025
11/19/2024
The 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards nominations are in, and we are proud to share that our artists and releases have been recognized in the following categories:
- Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance: “Beethoven for Three: Symphony No. 4 And Op. 97, ‘Archduke,’” Yo-Yo Ma, Leonidas Kavakos & Emanuel Ax
This is the latest chapter in three friends’ ongoing exploration of what Beethoven’s invention means for musicians and audiences today. Like the artists' two previous Beethoven for Three releases, this new recording challenges the traditional distinction between chamber and orchestral repertoire, pairing the unforgettable Archduke trio with one of the composer's most internally varied symphonies, thoughtfully re-arranged for piano, violin, and cello by Shai Wosner.
- Best Historical Album: "Paul Robeson — Voice of Freedom: His Complete Columbia, RCA, HMV, and Victor Recordings," Tom Laskey & Robert Russ, compilation producers; Nancy Conforti & Andreas K. Meyer, mastering engineers
The special 14-CD edition, documenting Paul Robeson’s complete major-label discography recorded 1925–1947, contains the first release of his groundbreaking Victor recordings on CD with 16 recordings reissued for the first time and 5 previously unreleased, the first restoration of Robeson’s famous 1944 Othello stage production with Uta Hagen and José Ferrer from the original 33 master disc sides, his complete remastered Columbia albums ("Songs of Free Men," "Popular Favorites," "Spirituals") and the first release of his complete historic 1958 recitals at Mother A.M.E. Zion Church, New York, and Royal Albert Hall, with 30 previously unissued recordings.
- Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album: "Opus," Ryuichi Sakamoto
“Opus” is a collection of works performed and composed by the late legendary composer taken from his final concert in the fall of 2022, before his death in early 2023. Carefully curated by Sakamoto, selections include iconic film scores and Yellow Magic Orchestra classics alongside pieces reflective of his eclectic career. “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence,” perhaps one of his most famous melodies, and beloved works "Andata,” "Aqua" and "Trioon " are represented as well as entirely new or never-before-recorded compositions. “for Jóhann”, dedicated to the late composer and Sakamoto’s friend Johann Johannson, “BB,” a tribute to filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci, and “20180219,” a previously unreleased solo piano track, are all new to Sakamoto’s vast repertoire.
