Isaac Stern (1920–2001) was one of the world’s leading violinists for many years, and also helped to establish many of the next generation of stars, including Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman.
He was born in Kremenets, Poland (now Ukraine) but lived in the US from 14 months, earning child prodigy status. Stern was very prolific, and in addition to the standard repertoire he premiered new works including Bernstein’s Serenade.
