Biography
“We’re hell-bent on a perfect catharsis” – Robert Mann (first violin, 1946–96).
Active since 1946, the Juilliard String Quartet is among today’s pre-eminent chamber ensembles.
Founded by Mann and composer William Schuman, both of whom taught at the Juilliard School where it has always been resident, the quartet has recorded a vast discography with Columbia and more recently Sony Classical, ranging from the classical repertoire through to newer works by the likes of Elliott Carter.
