Biography

Born in Leipzig, Simone Kermes is one of the most sought-after sopranos in the dramatic coloratura repertoire. Her extraordinary vocal range predestines her especially for the virtuoso works of baroque masters, such as Handel and Vivaldi, but also for the soprano parts and concert arias of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.

Simone Kermes studied with Prof. Helga Forner at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in her hometown of Leipzig. She completed her studies and two postgraduate studies with distinction. She has won prizes at numerous international singing competitions. She has given solo concerts and recitals throughout Europe, the USA and Japan, including Carnegie Hall New York, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and the Palau de la Musica Barcelona.

In addition to many radio and television productions, she has recorded numerous CDs covering works from Vivaldi to Humperdinck. For her solo albums she has received several international awards such as the Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, the Diapason`Or, Midem Award, Choc le monde de la Musique, BBC Music Choice, Gramophone-Disc of the month and the Echo Klassik-Preis. For the CD "Colori d`amore" Simone Kermes was awarded the ECHO KLASSIK prize 2011 as singer of the year.

In 2016, her CD "Love" was released by Sony Classical, on which "at no moment does she present herself as an exalted coloratura diva, but paints desire, despair and fulfillment with measured energy and the most differentiated dynamics." (Concerti 4/16)
